The Cross

Cross

Jesus Christ, give us patience and faith and hope
As we kneel at the foot of your Cross, and hold fast to it.
Teach us by your Cross that, however ill the world may go,
the father so loved us that he did not spare you,
But received the offering of your life,
So that we might live through you and in you and for you,
Who are the resurrection and the life.                      Charles Kingsley

O Lord Jesu Christ,
Take us to thyself,
Draw us with cords to the foot of thy cross;
For we have no strength to come, and we know not the way.
Thou art mighty to save, and none can separate us from thy love.
Bring us home to thyself, for we are gone astray.
We have wandered : do thou seek us.
Under the shadow of thy cross let us live all the rest of our lives,
And there we shall be safe.                                      Archbishop Frederick Temple

O Lord,holy Father,
Show us what kind of man it is who is hanging for our sakes on the cross,
Whose suffering causes the rocks themselves to crack and crumble with compassion,
Whose death brings the dead back to life.
Let my heart crack and crumble at the sight of him.
Let my soul break apart with compassion for his suffering.
Let it be shattered with grief at my sins for which he dies.
And finally let it be softened with devoted love for him.
                                                                                       Bonaventure

O Christ,
Give us patience and faith and hope
as we kneel at the foot of thy Cross and hold fast to it.
Teach us by thy Cross that however ill the world may be,
the Father so loved us that he spared not thee.                  Charles Kingsley

O Lord Jesus,
For as much as your life was despised by the world,
Grant us so to imitate you,
even though the world despises us,
That with your image always before your eyes,
We may learn that only the servants of the cross
Can find the way of genuine happiness and true light.
Hear us and save us,
Lord Jesus.                                                                     Thomas à Kempis

Grant,O Lord,that
In your wounds I may find my safety,
In your stripes my cure,
In your pain my peace,
In your Cross my victory,
In your resurrection my triumph,
And a crown of righteousness in the glories of your eternal kingdom.
                                                                                     Jeremy Taylor
